15 cool technologies to watch

Smashing Magazine recently featured an incredibly handy list of new and emerging technologies to watch. The list comprises an inspiring array of cutting-edge work including projections, holograms, Nintendo Wii hacks and 3D TV.

I recently saw a demo of Philips’ 3D video that makes Smashing’s list (requires the use of a special 3D Philips TV to work), and agree that it offers a compelling experience without those old school red/blue paper glasses. And you can even convert existing 2D video to 3D with a fairly straightforward post-processing technique, which means you don’t have to worry about having special cameras around to create a 3D effect.

3D - funny how something that started in the 50’s is still trying to be done with enough quality to be accepted…i actually think it might gain traction since the second life fervor has died down, and likely will stay that way until it becomes more ‘virtual,’ 3D would help accomplish this.

nothing can replace the real world. i think the technology to combine real world and tech 3D is fascinating - but at the end of the day - fake is fake.
